Swansea City manager Brendan Rodgers was in a forgiving mood after his side’s second-half collapse against Manchester City on Monday.
Despite keeping the hosts scoreless for 56 minutes at Etihad Stadium, Swansea ended up on the receiving end of a 4-0 reverse after goals to Edin Dzeko, David Silva and a brace to new signing Sergio Aguero showed the class divide between the title aspirants and league newcomers.
But Rodgers was not ready to label the match a disaster, preferring to focus on their first-half performance in Manchester.
“I said to the players I was proud of them,” Rodgers told Sky Sports.
“Up until the hour I thought we were fantastic. I was disappointed with two quick goals, but we conceded goals against a terrific team.”
“If you look at the goals, we’re disappointed with the first two. They were basic mistakes.”
“The only goal of real quality was the fourth from Aguero. We won’t be downhearted. We won’t come up against this type of opponent every week.”
Swansea host Wigan on Saturday at Liberty Stadium, while City will travel to Bolton’s Reebok Stadium on Sunday.
