Swansea City boss Brendan Rodgers labelled Saturday’s 3-0 win over West Brom, his side’s first win in the top flight, a ‘complete’ performance.
Swansea’s long wait for their first Premier League goal ended in the 14th minute when Scott Sinclair stroked home a penalty, and Leroy Lita and Nathan Dyer followed up to make sure of the result.
Rodgers said he was delighted with the win, which came a week after his father Malachy died after a battle with cancer.
“I thought we thoroughly deserved the win, it was a very complete performance. Our performance level has been excellent in the first five games, that’s three clean sheets now, and we have always looked like scoring,” he said.
“But we have never had that bit of good fortune, but our play with and without the ball was top class.”
“Sometimes if you play like we have been playing and you don’t pick up a win it may drag on and you can lose confidence, but it was an outstanding team performance.”
West Brom manager Roy Hodgson, meanwhile, was left to rue his side’s defensive shortcomings as they slumped to their fourth loss from five matches.
“There’s no question in my mind that they were the better side and deserved to win the game,” Hodgson said.
“But I’m disappointed at the way we’ve lost it. We didn’t expect to concede from a corner kick. We didn’t expect to concede from a long goal-kick.”
“We thought if we were to concede it would be through their wing-play but we actually dealt with that reasonably well.”
“I was still hopeful that in the second half we’d make a go of it but we shot ourselves in the foot by conceding the early third goal.”
