Talk Sport are today reporting that Brendan Rodgers has told Andy Carroll that is he wants to leave Anfield then he can do so.
Carroll has been linked with a move away from Liverpool plenty of times during this summer transfer window with Newcastle and West Ham United being keen on sigining the England international on loan.
Rodgers has said: “You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to see Andy’s been a cover player but he’s been excellent in his attitude and acceptance of where he is at.
“But, as a club, I’m not sure we are in a position to have £35m players as third-choice strikers, or a winger on £5-6m a year.”
It looks as though the Merseyside club will want to sell their striker on a permanent basis.
This could now spark clubs to try and sign the Geordie in the final stages of this transfer window.
It is thought that Carroll’s dream move would be a return to the North-East, which is where Liverpool brought him from in January last year for £35 million.
He did of course put in some good performances for England at Euro 2012 and is still only 23-years-old so has plenty of potential. But, Rodgers likes to play a certain brand of football and that doesn’t seem to suit Carroll’s game.
Serie A giants AC Milan were also suggested to be keeping tabs on the Englishman earlier in the summer, but it is thought they have lost interest in him.
