A report from the Daily Mail suggests that Brendan Rodgers could look to bring free agent Michael Owen back to Anfield after failing to secure the services of a striker on deadline day of the transfer window.
Rodgers and Liverpool have come under some criticism for the business they did in the window as they let record-signing Andy Carroll go out on loan and did not manage to replace him.
Now, their only option is to bring a free agent to the club and it is though that Michael Owen could be on his way to Merseyside.
Owen of course enjoyed the best spell of his career at Anfield and was loved by the fans in his time at the club as he scored 158 goals in 297 appearances.
However, the move to Manchester United that the Englishman made did not sit well with supporters.
If he manages to stay fit, then the 32-year-old is still one of the best finishers in the game, but his fitness is the problem and Liverpool will be taking a risk if they do take him on board as his wages are likely to be fairly high.
With other English Premier League sides Sunderland and Stoke City also said to be keeping tabs on Owen, it is certainly an interesting story.
