Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers says his side will start scoring soon after they played out a goalless draw with Sunderland on Saturday.
Three games into the English Premier League season and newly promoted Swansea are yet to open their account, after suffering a 4-0 loss to Manchester City first up before 0-0 draws against Wigan and now Sunderland.
Despite creating a host of chances against Steve Bruce’s side, new 3.5 million-pound striker Danny Graham is still waiting to get on the scoresheet for his new club, but Rodgers does not believe he will have to wait long.
“We have not scored but we are not a team that does not look like scoring,” Rodgers said.
“I thought that we were absolutely terrific apart from that final touch in front of goal.”
“You could see from our changes in the game that we were not going to sit on the 0-0, we adapt and make sure all our goal scorers are on the field.”
“We are doing everything we can it and it is just that little bit of luck.”
“Danny hasn’t scored but you can see it is only a matter of time.”
“His intensity and work rate are excellent.”
Bruce, meanwhile, is suffering exactly the same problem with his Sunderland side, and with just one goal in their account so far this season, the 50-year-old is annoyed with his team’s failure to convert chances.
“We are frustrated,” Bruce said. “When you come away from home and create the chances that we have – and it doesn’t happen that often in the Premier League – what we need to do and what has cost us, this week in particular, is the ability to stick it in the back of the net and make the right choices.”
“So many times we made the wrong choice today when we got people through. For instance, late in the second half, Asa (Asamoah Gyan) should just roll it across the box and Connor Wickham has a tap in.”
“But unfortunately the longer it goes, people have a snatch at it and of course it comes to cost you.”
