A report from the Guardian suggests that Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has urged Raheem Sterling to sign a new contract with the club as soon as he turns 18-years-old next month.
Sterling will be eligible to sign a professional contract on December 8, but a deal between his representatives and the Reds has not quite been agreed yet.
Much of this is sure to be down to the fact that the England international has started 13 out of 14 English Premier League matches this campaign, which means he is likely to get a large contract from the Merseyside club.
Rodgers wants the deal to be resolved quickly as well as both Chelsea and Manchester City are reportedly interested in landing the young, talented winger.
They are both set to monitor the situation and if a deal with his current employers is not agreed, then these two English giants could battle it out for the 17-year-old’s signature.
Rodgers seems fairly calm on the situation though and does expect Sterling to sign a contract next month.
He is certainly not a player that Liverpool want to be losing, especially to a Premier League rival.
We will see just how this story develops in the next week or so.
