According to a recent report from Marca, Everton midfielder James Rodriguez is likely to sign for Atletico Madrid after making it clear he wants to leave the club.
From a cryptic tweet that was seemingly misinterpreted to his general demeanour, this has been a long time coming for the Colombian. Rodriguez had a strong start to his tenure at Goodison Park but ever since then he’s failed to really light the world on fire. Now, with Carlo Ancelotti gone and Rafa Benitez coming in as his replacement, it seems almost inevitable that Rodriguez will follow in the footsteps of Ancelotti by heading to Spain.
Atletico Madrid are the ones currently leading the charge in the race to sign him and with James knowing the city pretty well, it could offer up a real chance at redemption for the 30-year-old.
Either way, it feels like Everton fans have already prepared themselves for his departure.
