Rodriguez set for Wolfsburg stay

Bundesliga high-flyers Wolfsburg are on the verge of extending the contract of star footballer Ricardo Rodriguez, according to Bild.

With the defender’s current deal running until June 2016 and top European clubs casting admiring glances his way, the Wolves feared they would not be able to keep hold of their star player.

However, Bild has learned that lengthy negotiations over a new contract have finally produced results, with Rodriguez all but agreeing to sign a new deal at Volkswagen Arena.

Under the terms of the agreement, the Switzerland hotshot will be tied to the club until June 2019, while the amount of the release clause will be somewhere between €25m and €32m.

This basically means that Rodriguez could still be leaving at the end of the current campaign, but in that case Wolfsburg would be entitled to a hefty transfer fee.

Rodriguez, 22, is widely regarded as one of world’s most productive full-backs, and he has already scored 3 goals in 9 Bundesliga outings this term.
