Roma confirm Liverpool interest in striker

The Liverpool Echo is reporting this afternoon on how Roma have confirmed Liverpool’s interest in striker Fabio Borini.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is a big fan of the striker after working with him at Swansea and the 21-year-old moving to Anfield has been much discussed this week.

This is the first time Roma have confirmed the possibility of a transfer going ahead though, with sporting director Walter Sabatini saying there is ‘real interest’ from Liverpool in Borini.

He also went on to say that the Serie A club are ‘evaluating the situation’. Basically, they are deciding what action to take on the striker’s future.

One thing for certain is that Rodgers wants to sign the player. The Reds boss believes Borini will be a huge hit in the Premier League and become a popular figure amongst the Liverpool fans.

Much could depend on the player’s ambitions, but it seems likely he would be keen to work with Rodgers again, especially at a club as big as Liverpool.

Should Roma decide to sell Borini, it is thought they could use the cash to make a bid for Siena striker Mattia Destro who is one of their many summer targets.

They could face competition from other Serie A clubs though, so may want to move the Borini deal along.

We will be keeping a close eye on this one.
