A report from the Metro suggests that Liverpool may miss out on one of their big transfer targets this summer – Clint Dempsey.
The Reds looked likely to signing the Fulham man last month but talks have stalled recently as Brandan Rodgers is not prepared to pay the London club the fee they are demanding, which is believed to be £10 million.
The American international has not travelled on Fulham’s pre-season tour as his future remains uncertain.
The news that Dempsey may not be on his way to Anfield appears to have caught the attention of Serie A side Roma, who are also apparent admires of the attacker.
Roma sold Fabio Borini to Liverpool for £12 million and look set to spend that money on finding a replacement for him.
The Italian club will be looking to challenge for the league title this campaign and securing Dempsey’s services could boost their chances of doing this.
However, the 29-year-old seems to have his heart set on a move to Merseyside and is desperate for Fulham to agree terms with their English Premier League opponents.
There is still time for twists and turns in this deal and the Cottagers may need to lower their asking price if they want to cash in on the American.
