Roma eyeing Marcel Schmelzer

Italian giants AS Roma are weighing up summer move for Borussia Dortmund full back Marcel Schmelzer, La Gazzetta dello Sport can reveal.

The Giallorossi aim to recruit a left sided defender after Jose Holebas joined Premier League newcomers Watford and they have recently been linked with Adriano Correia and Alberto Moreno.

Nevertheless, the latest reports suggest that Borussia Dortmund’s Marcel Schmelzer is also high on their hit-list.

La Gazzetta dello Sport claims that the Germany international should be available for mere €7 million, although it remains to be seen whether new coach Thomas Tuchel will be prepared to let him leave.

Marcel Schmelzer, 27, is no longer considered an undisputed member of the starting line-up at Signal-Iduna Park, with Erik Durm slowly emerging as the first option on the left flank.

Capped 16 times by Germany, the left sided defender has another two years on his contract at Signal-Iduna Park.
