Serie A side Roma have confirmed interest in River Plate youngster Lucas Ocampos.
The 17-year-old has been in scintillating form this term and he is widely tipped to move to Europe at the end of the season.
Ocampos has been linked with a number of high-profile sides, including Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus, but it appears that Roma are leading the race for the player’s signature.
The Giallorossi sporting director Walter Sabatini has confirmed the club’s interest in the young Argentine, hinting that Roma would enter the bidding war in the summer.
“We intend to contract him if we can get him for a reasonable price,” Sabatini said to Argentine newspaper Ole.
The young midfielder is one of the most sought-after players in Europe at the moment, with his mature displays for River Plate justifying his €22 million price tag.
Ocampos has been ever present for the Millionaires this season, having started all 27 league games, scoring 6 goals in the process.
