Italian giants AS Roma are keeping close tabs on Sampdoria striker Gonzalo Bergessio, Tuttosport can reveal.
The Giallorossi aim to recruit another centre forward if Marco Borriello leaves and the Argentine appears to be their primary target.
Roma need an experienced striker who wouldn’t mind playing second fiddle to Francesco Totti and Mattia Destro and they believe Bergessio would be a perfect fit.
The 30-year-old left Catania for Sampdoria in the summer, but he has failed to establish himself as a first team regular, making just two Serie A starts so far.
Bergessio, nonetheless, has a proven goalscoring record in Italy’s top division, having bagged 35 goals in 109 league outings for Catania.
His suitors Roma are desperate to end Juventus’ domestic domination this season, and seeing as how they currently sit mere three points behind the reigning champions, there may be value in odds of 5/2 offered on the Giallorossi to lift the title.
