Spanish daily newspaper AS has learned that AS Roma are considering a summer bid for Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas.
The Spain international is widely expected to quit Santiago Bernabeu in the summer transfer window seeing as David De Gea is set to join from Manchester United.
And it appears as though AS Roma have emerged as the favourites to recruit the experienced shot-stopper.
The Giallorossi need to sign a replacement for veteran Morgan De Sanctis and they believe that Casillas would be a great addition to the squad at Stadio Olimpico.
Roma officials have already contacted the player’s agent Carlo Cutropia, but the goalkeeper’s high wage demands could prove an obstacle to any deal.
Casillas is currently earning around €7.5 million per campaign, whilst the Giallorossi would not be able to offer him more than €3 million per season.
The 34-year-old has spent his entire career up to date at Santiago Bernabeu, but his lengthy spell with Real Madrid is drawing to a close.
