AS Roma have emerged as favourites to sign Zenit midfielder Axel Witsel, Il Corriere dello Sport can reveal.
The Belgian footballer has already made it clear that he wants to leave the Russian club after the Euro 2016, and Italian Serie A appears to be the most likely destination.
But, while Juventus and AC Milan are also keen, the latest reports suggest that Witsel could end up at AS Roma.
Luciano Spalletti is a big fan of the Belgium international and with Miralem Pjanic expected to leave, this feels like the right time to launch an assault on the highly rated midfielder.
Considering that Witsel will have just a year and a half left on his deal next summer, chances are he will be available at a reasonable price.
The midfielder should be on the pitch when Belgium face Portugal in Leiria later today, with the Red Devils priced at 13/5 to come out on top.
