AS Roma are reportedly in pole position to sign Udinese goalkeeper Simone Scuffet, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Giallorossi see the talented footballer as a perfect long-term replacement for Morgan De Sanctis, although they are unlikely to make a move in the summer transfer window.
Roma recently sold Nico Lopez and Valerio Verre to Udinese, and they hope good relations with the Zebrette will give them the upper hand in the race for the 18-year-old.
Simone Scuffet exploded onto the big stage last season, taking full advantage of weak competition for a place in goal to nail down a regular starting berth.
The youngster largely impressed in 16 Serie A appearances, catching the eye of Europe’s top clubs in the process.
He does not yet appear ready to leave Friuli for greener pastures, but things could easily change in a year’s time, especially if Udinese receive an attractive proposal.
