Roma have revealed that striker Marco Boriello is no longer needed at the club and that he has been placed on the transfer list.
The experienced forward only recently returned to the club following a loan spell with Juventus, but the player doesn’t feature in the plans of new Roma boss Zdenek Zeman.
The Giallorossi sporting director Walter Sabatini informed interested clubs that Borriello has been put up for sale.
“We have placed Borriello on the transfer list and he is well aware of it,” Sabatini said to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Pocketing €5.4 million per campaign, the 30-year-old is one of the highest earners at the club and his hefty wage bill has proved to be a major issue.
Seeing that Borriello has three years left on his contract and that he is no longer considered a first team regular, Roma chiefs believe the best thing for everyone concerned would be for him to leave this summer.
The controversial forward joined Roma in a €10 million deal from AC Milan in July 2011, after spending one season on loan at Olimpico.
