AS Roma have submitted an offer to Arsenal for Ainsley Maitland-Niles, according to multiple reports. The Serie A side are now waiting for a response from the Gunners.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta seems to have settled on his preferred starting XI at the moment, and there is no place for the 24-year-old in it. Being highly versatile, Maitland-Niles prefers a central midfield role, and going mostly for youth in other areas, Arteta has expectedly chosen the experienced duo of Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka as the pair in the middle of the park in his 4-2-3-1 shape.
This term, Maitland-Niles has started just two Premier League matches so far, and made further six appearances off the bench. His only goal contribution came in the form of an assist in the Carabao Cup win over West Bromwich Albion back in August.
However, it seems his versatility is wanted elsewhere, with Roma boss Jose Mourinho keen to bring him to the Stadio Olimpico as his team strive to secure a top-four finish in the Italian top flight.
