According to a recent report from Sky Italy, Roma are believed to have made an offer to Manchester United of around £8.5 million that would see them make Chris Smalling’s loan move from the Red Devils a permanent one. At this moment in time Smalling is still being tipped to return to Old Trafford at the conclusion of his current loan deal, but Roma clearly believe in their ability to get some kind of deal over the finish line.
Alas, while they may have already put forward a bid, they’ll need to up it to around £17 million or so if they want to attract the attention of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Smalling has made a strong start to life over in Italy this season, with the belief being that he can play a key role in guiding Roma back to where the club feel like he belongs. Either way the Englishman is going to be a source of intrigue between now and the end of the season, as fans wait to see what decision he will make.
