PSV Eindhoven technical director Marcel Brands has insisted that Roma have made the only realistic offer for Kevin Strootman.
The 23-year-old midfielder has been linked to a number of clubs, including Manchester United, but Brands has confirmed that Roma are currently first in line.
“There has been contact, and we are only open to Roma as they have put an extremely high offer on the table,” he told Algemeen Dagblad.
Strootman, who scored six goals in 32 Eredivisie appearances last season, has been with the Dutch club since 2011 after joining from Utrecht.
His agent, Chiel Dekker, has also suggested that the deal may move ahead quickly now given Brands’ approval.
“We know the interest and the calls made by PSV and AS Roma,” he revealed to De Telegraaf.
“But we will only come into action when Marcel Brands indicates that the clubs are in agreement.”
