Roma not built in one day, says Borini

Fabio Borini has expressed his desire to stay at Roma, claiming he retains every faith in the Serie A club’s plans for success.

The Stadio Olimpico side finished the season on a low note, with coach Luis Enrique standing down after failing to lead the capital club into Europe.

However, Borini insisted he has not been left disheartened by the disappointing end to Roma’s campaign and sees his long-term future in the Italian capital.

“I want to stay at Roma,” the striker told reporters on Monday.

“I believe in the project and I don’t judge this season as all bad, even if it did not finish as my team-mates and I would have hoped.”

Borini’s current focus, though, is on securing a place in Italy’s squad for Euro 2012, having been named in Cesare Prandelli’s provisional line-up for Poland and Ukraine.

It has been suggested that the former Chelsea forward is essentially competing for one place with fellow young gun Mattia Destro, but Borini said that is not the case.

“Mattia is a great friend, so there is no rivalry,” the 21-year-old explained.

“And there is a beautiful climate in the camp; it’s a good group.”

Borini, who made his international debut against the United States in February, arrived at the Ennio Tardini last off-season, but was immediately loaned to Roma, who then acquired a 50 per cent stake in the player in January.
