Italian daily newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport has learned that AS Roma are weighing up move for Southampton midfielder Gaston Ramirez.
The Giallorossi sporting director Walter Sabatini is a big admirer of the Uruguayan and he has a plan to bring him to Stadio Olimpico.
Given that Ramirez would take up a non-EU spot in the squad, Roma cannot add him to their ranks before the summer, but they can still sign him in the January window.
Namely, the Giallorossi plan to purchase the player’s contract from Southampton before sending him on loan at former club Bologna, where he would spend the remainder of the season.
Such an arrangement would also see Ramirez get exposure to regular playing time, which would aid his chances of keeping his place in the national team ahead of the 2014 World Cup.
And with Southampton still having some instalments left unpaid from the purchase of Pablo Daniel Osvaldo, Roma officials believe they can easily reach an agreement with the Saints.
