AS Roma have moved to deny reports suggesting talented forward Mattia Destro could be leaving the club at the end of the current campaign.
Despite showing a great deal of promise, the 22-year-old still plays second fiddle to club icon Francesco Totti and there have been some rumours suggesting he was unhappy with his current status.
However, Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini has rubbished speculations linking Destro with a summer exit.
“The fate of Mattia Destro is relentless, it is at Roma in the long run,” Sabatini told Sky Sport Italia.
“There is no dualism, Totti is the greatest player in the history of Roma and when he is fit he plays. Destro knows that, but he also knows that there will be time when they will play together.”
Mattia Destro had come through the youth ranks at Inter Milan, but left the Nerazzurri for Genoa without making a single appearance for the senior side.
Following a successful loan spell at Siena, Roma purchased the forward from the Rossoblu, and he has since impressed at Stadio Olimpico.
Destro went on to score 12 goals in 31 Serie A appearances, which is a very good return considering he has only spent some 1600 minutes on the pitch in total.
