According to a recent report from Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma are set to make their final bid for Manchester United defender Chris Smalling this week.
The offer will be €15 million next summer and a €3 million loan fee within the next few days, taking the deal to a total of €18 million. The two sides have been struggling back and forth over the specifics of this move and at one point, it really did seem as if it was going to be dead in the water. However, with United showing no signs of throwing Smalling a lifeline, it does feel like they’re now coming around to the idea of selling him.
Smalling enjoyed a strong stint in Italy with Roma and clearly wanted to keep it going for as long as he could, and at this stage, the only hope will be that he hasn’t lost too much momentum heading into the new season.
