Roma sign Emerson Palmieri

Italian giants AS Roma announced on their official website that they have signed Brazilian defender Emerson Palmieri from Santos.

The Giallorossi completed the deal in the dying moments of the summer transfer window, with the 21-year-old joining on a season-long loan.

The transfer comes as a bit of surprise considering that Roma had earlier recruited fellow left-back Lucas Digne from PSG.

Emerson Palmieri came through the youth ranks at Santos and went on to make 30 league appearances for the Brazilian giants.

The full-back spent the previous campaign on loan with Palermo, but could only make nine substitute outings in Italian Serie A.

Roma officials, nonetheless, seem to believe he has the potential to develop into a quality footballer and have decided to offer the youngster a chance to prove his worth at Stadio Olimpico.

Following the derby win over title rivals Juventus, the Giallorossi are priced at 5/2 to lift the Serie A trophy.
