AS Roma have started negotiations with Newcastle for Italian full-back Davide Santon, Il Corriere dello Sport understands.
The Giallorossi see the former Italy international as a perfect addition to the squad seeing as how he can play on either flank.
Roma officials are currently in talks with the Premier League side, but they do not appear ready to match their €10 million asking price.
The Stadio Olimpico outfit have instead offered €6 million, while they are ready to go up to €8 million maximum.
The agreement is, therefore, not on the horizon, as it is up to Roma to decide whether the player offers a good value for money at a current price.
Meanwhile, the Giallorossi are keeping close tabs on Shakhtar Donetsk attacker Douglas Costa, who holds a Portuguese passport and would not take up a non-EU spot in the squad.
Neither of their two targets will be playing at the 2014 World Cup, where the Azzurri are 25/1 to win outright.
