Serie A giants Roma are ready to offer Carlo Ancelotti a chance to take over the reigns at Olimpico after Claudio Ranieri resigned from the post.
One didn’t need to be an expert punter while monitoring the betting odds closely to see that Claudio Ranieri would soon leave Roma, with the Italian boss finally deciding to quit after his side squandered a three-goal lead in their defeat to Genoa last weekend.
Roma are now ready to approach under-fire Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti, according to Daily Mail, and he is expected to seriously consider the offer.
The Italian is under extreme pressure at Chelsea after the Blues were eliminated from both domestic Cups, and with their Champions League place also in danger, Ancelotti could be sacked even before the season ends.
Roman Abramovich has reportedly held a crisis meeting following the weekend’s FA Cup exit and while Ancelotti has been given a vote of confidence, his position at Stamford Bridge remains highly unstable.
The Italian last night revealed he would not quit Chelsea, although that doesn’t mean he will finish the season as the Blues boss.
“I don’t have to consider my position. It is the owner that has to consider my position, not me,” Ancelotti said.
“I have to work and try my best. This is football. You have to be able to manage this moment.”
Ancelotti believes that Ivanovic and Terry are the only players in the side currently playing to the expectations.
“At this moment there is Ivanovic and Terry, and Lampard played well.
“We have a problem at this moment with Mikel and Essien. They’re not 100 per cent fit. I said a lot of times that we lost confidence in our play and it’s difficult to move on. The results are not good.”
While the Italian is unwilling to resign from the post, he could easily be sacked if the poor results continue as Roman Abramovich appears to have lost the patience and he wants to see an immediate uptrend in fortunes.
Roma, on the other hand, are desperate to appoint a high-profile coach and the man who can sort out the dressing room, something that Claudio Ranieri was unable to do, and they see Ancelotti as the perfect man for the job.
Taking all this into consideration, Ancelotti’s move to Roma could be the best for all three parties, and we can definitely expect certain developments in the near future.
