AS Roma were interested in signing Dejan Lovren from Liverpool last summer, but the negotiations between the two clubs broke down due to a significant difference between Liverpool’s demands and what Roma had offered. However, the Serie A side are expected to reignite their interest and step up their pursuit of the Croatian when the next transfer window opens, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
Roma signed Chris Smalling on a season-long loan from Manchester United after their attempts to bring Lovren to the Italian capital failed last year. But even though they would like to make that deal permanent, it doesn’t look likely at the moment, so they will turn their attention to Lovren again.
The 30-year-old centre-back’s contract with Liverpool is about to enter its final 12 months and he is far from a regular feature in Jurgen Klopp’s back line, owing to the qualities of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip.
