With Genoa midfielder Tomas Rincon on his way to the Italian champions Juventus, Serie A heavyweights Roma are switching their focus to Sampdoria’s Lucas Torreira, La Gazzetta dello Sport are suggesting.
Giallorossi have reportedly already contacted the 20-year-old Uruguay international’s representatives looking to wrap up a January deal for the talented starlet.
Torreira is seen as a natural replacement for in-demand Belgium enforcer Radja Nainggolan, who could be on his way out of Roma in January or at the end of the season.
The Uruguayan has been the standard performer for Samprodia this season having made 16 full starts in Serie A this term.
His inspiring displays for Doria have alarmed Roma who are keen to reinforce their ranks with the talented youngster.
Luciano Spalletti’s side finished the year in second place in the Serie A standings, four points behind leaders Juventus who have a game in hand.
Roma return to action with a trip to Genoa on 8 January 2017.
