Roman Neustadter agrees Zenit switch

Russian daily newspaper Izvestia claims that Schalke midfielder Roman Neustadter has agreed a deal with Zenit.

The 27-year-old will be out of contract in the summer and he is now free to negotiate a Bosman transfer with interested sides.

According to Izvestia, Neustadter has agreed to join Zenit when his current deal expires, albeit depending on the success of his application to receive Russian passport.

With quite a few foreigners already in the squad, Schalke will only give the green light to said transfer if the midfielder receives Russian citizenship.

Born in Dnipropetrovsk, Neustadter has Russian roots and he hopes to be part of Leonid Slutsky’s squad for the Euro 2016.

Having only featured in two friendly matches for Germany, the midfielder will probably succeed in his quest, although it is not a given he will make the final squad.

Neustadter has spent last three and a half years at Veltins Arena, making 105 Bundesliga appearances.
