Man Utd’s Ronaldo reveals: “I’ll sign next week”

The Sun reveals that Cristiano Ronaldo has dispelled rumours of a move away from Old Trafford by confirming today that he will sign a new deal at the club by next week.

Speculation over his future went into media ovedrive this week, and Real Madrid were named over and over again as the prospective buyers of the superstar.

Ronaldo told the Sun newspaper “My future will be clear next week. Everyone will be pleased- my club as well as me”

“I think i will definitely be here next season. Yes, I want to stay”

“We won the most important trophies this season. I want to do it againt next season, but no one knows the future.”

“I want to stay, I feel very happy in the club. I win trophies, the people are friendly, supporters are amazing, everything is fun for me. It is very good.”

Ronaldos future may have been decided in Moscow after winning the UEFA Champions League Trophy for the first time at the club and when asked whether he would remain at the club, the star told ITV Sport “I stay”.

Alex Ferguson’s assistrant Carlos Queiroz was also confident about Ronaldo’s future at the club.

Queiroz said: “Without a doubt he will continue with United. He’s very happy with us, he has a contract and there is no fear or worry he will go.”

Ronaldo finished off an astonishing season by scoring Manchester United’s only goal in the Champions League Final at Moscow, his 42nd goal of the season. Ronaldo is now hailed among the press and fans alike, and has become a cult hero at Old Trafford.

The recent idolisation is an astonishing turnaround since he became “Public Enemy Number One” after the World Cup in 2006, following Wayne Rooney’s sending off against Portugal.

The Portguese superstar seemed troubled at the club after returning from Portugal, and publicly demanded a move away from England as he felt the club had not defended or supported him Rooney fiasco. Ronaldo was already becoming an unpopular figure in the media and among fans, with many feeling that the player was unsporting and went to the ground to easily.

Ronaldo admits that he now feels more comfortable in English football, and he believes that the majoirty of English fans are on his side.

However, Real Madrid boss Bernd Schuster continued to stoke the fires of speculation by declaring that the player would end up at the Bernabeu.

He told the Spanish media: “Sooner or later, Cristiano Ronaldo will wear white.”

“If there is any possibility of our recruiting him then Real Madrid have to try.”

No matter where he ends up there is no doubt that Ronaldo now ranks among the worlds best, and he is widely tipped to pick up the World Football of the Year award in December.

I’ll believe it when I see it. I think it makes too much business sense for United not to sign him. The bottom line usually wins out.
