Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo is hopeful the La Liga giants can claim either the league or UEFA Champions League title this campaign.
The 26-year-old won the European club competition in 2008 when Manchester United beat Chelsea in the Moscow final, but was a loser the following season as Sir Alex Ferguson’s side went down to Barcelona.
That proved to be Ronaldo’s last game for United before a big-money move to Madrid, and his attempts to add another European title to his collection were ended last season once more by Barcelona in the semi-final stage.
The Portuguese forward believes Real Madrid can win their 10th European crown in 2011-12.
“We have to win important trophies, the Liga or the Champions League because these are the titles that make you triumph in football,” Ronaldo told Uefa.com.
“Winning it (the Champions League) is the final phase of having a great season and it is one of the most important trophies.”
“I had the fortune to win it with Manchester United in 2008 and I think this was the greatest moment in my career.”
“Now I hope to win it with Real Madrid because it is the greatest title you can win on a European level.”
Madrid are away to Dinamo Zagreb in next week’s Champions League Group D opener, but first welcome local rivals Getafe to the Santiago Bernabeu in La Liga on Saturday.
