(GSM) – A first-half goal by Ronaldo lifted Corinthians to a 1-0 victory at Paraguay’s Cerro Porteño on Wednesday, leaving the Brazilians four points clear at the top of Copa Libertadores Group 1.

The hosts actually started out the brighter of the two sides, but Felipe made key saves from both Pablo Zeballos and Jorge Núñez in the first half.

Those saves allowed Corinthians the chance to go in front in the 42nd minute when Ronaldo tucked home from close range after a corner kick was flicked into his path.

The second half saw Cerro push forward with great intensity, desperate to earn a point to keep Corinthians within reach in the group table.

The strong defensive effort, led by Roberto Carlos, successfully fended off the Paraguayans and gave Corinthians the win.

The Brazilians are top of the group on seven points, four points clear of Uruguay’s Racing Club. Cerro sit point with just one point from three games.
