Cristiano Ronaldo opened his competitive goal account for Real Madrid on Saturday in the opening fixture of the Spanish League season.

Portuguese superstar Ronaldo, signed for a world record 94 million euros (132 million dollars) from Manchester United, scored from the penalty spot in the 35th minute of the home game against Deportivo La Coruna after Raul had been brought down in the area.

Raul had earlier given Real a 26th-minute lead before Riki had levelled on the half-hour for Deportivo as the score remained 2-1 at the break.
