Corinthians striker Ronaldo Nazario de Lima is set to announce retirement from football, according to O Globo.
Ronaldo has reportedly told his friends that he would end his playing career in the next few days, and he is expected to officially announce his retirement on Monday.
The Brazilian was disappointed with fans’ reaction following the elimination from Copa Libertadores, but that is just one of the reasons for his decision.
Others include the departure of his friend Roberto Carlos and lack of will to continue fighting with numerous injuries.
However, Ronaldo is likely to face some resistance after announcing his decision because of the number of advertising contracts signed until the end of the year.
While Corinthians could definitely do without him on the pitch, the club are aware Ronaldo’s departure would be a financial disaster.
The 34-year-old will be remembered as one of the most prolific strikers in the history of football, as well as one of just two players to have won FIFA Player of the Year award three times.
