Rooney ‘agrees new United deal’

Wayne Rooney has agreed a new, lucrative contract with Manchester United, according to Talksport.

The England international has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford since the end of last season, but has now extended his deal to beyond 2015.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho was keen to lure the forward to Stamford Bridge, but was rejected in his advances during the summer and will continue to be, despite sanctioning Juan Mata’s move to the Old Trafford at the weekend.

The new deal ensures that Rooney, who is fourth on United’s list of all-time top goal-scorers with 208 – three behind Jack Rowley in third place, will remain as the best paid player in English football.

Rooney and Mata both played in the 2-0 victory over Cardiff City on Tuesday evening, a result that keeps David Moyes’ men six points from the top four following Liverpool’s 4-0 win in the Merseyside derby.
