Rooney can ignore distractions: Capello

England boss Fabio Capello has revealed Wayne Rooney will start against Montenegro, despite the arrest of his father and uncle on Thursday.

The Manchester United striker’s relatives have since been released on bail pending further enquiries into a betting scandal involving Motherwell midfielder Steve Jennings, and Capello revealed that despite the personal disruption, the current Golden Boot leader in the English Premier League is ready to play in their Euro 2012 qualifier on Friday.

“I spoke with him five minutes ago. I found him to be relaxed and calm and there should be no problems for the game we play tomorrow against Montenegro,” Capello said, at his pre-match press conference.

When asked if Rooney’s game would be affected, Capello said: “No absolutely not, because he told me he had no problems and we’re sure we’ll find a solution for this personal problem.”

The Three Lions manager said his side is yet to be finalised, with a strike partner for Rooney and a right-back two positions yet to be sewed up in the XI.

“I have some ideas but I will need to sleep on them and decide tomorrow about the forward we will play with Rooney and also who will play at right-back,” he said.

When asked if Kyle Walker or Phil Jones could play at full-back, he said: “Yes (I have no problem with either). But I need to decide about the right-back because we can’t play without one. I think one of these two players will play tomorrow and I have full confidence in them.”

“It’s been really good. We’ve trained really well in the last three days. I selected 24 players for this game and all the players are fit to play in the game tomorrow.”

Capello does not think his team will alter their style of play despite only needing a draw to secure qualification to Euro 2012 and is confident of winning, but warned his team that Branko Brnovic’s side are not to be taken lightly.

“It would be a big mistake if our approach would be to play for the draw. We need to play to win and I think the players understand we need to play with the same strategy as in previous away games. I spoke a lot about this and I think they understood what I said during the meeting,” the Italian said.

“It will be a different game because of the spirit of Montenegro. It will be a tough game but we’ve played better away from home because it’s been easier for us to find space and to attack it with our forwards, who are very fast and really good technically.”

The England boss is hopeful of qualification and does not mind in which fashion it comes in, even if it is a repeat of the bore draw when the sides met at Wembley last November.

“Sometimes 0-0 are frustrating, sometimes 0-0 are good results. I hope the game that we play tomorrow will be very good for us and the result will be enough for us to qualify in first position which is important,” he said.
