Wayne Rooney was on Tuesday recalled to the Manchester United starting line-up for the Champions League Group C opener against Rangers at Old Trafford.
The England striker was left out of the squad for Saturday’s 3-3 draw at Everton amid lurid allegations over his private life.
Captain Rio Ferdinand was also back in the side after recovering from injury as United manager Sir Alex Ferguson made 10 changes from the team that played at Goodison Park. Midfielder Darren Fletcher was the only player to retain his place.
For Rangers, Kenny Miller was named as a lone striker.
Man Utd: Kuszczak; Brown, Ferdinand, Smalling, Fabio Da Silva; Valencia, Fletcher, Gibson, Park; Rooney, Hernandez. Subs: Van der Sar, Owen, Anderson, Giggs, O’Shea, Jonathan Evans, Macheda.
Rangers: McGregor; Broadfoot, Weir, Bougherra, Papac; Whittaker, Davis, McCulloch, Edu, Naismith; Miller. Subs: Alexander, Lafferty, Foster, Beattie, Weiss, Little, Hutton
