(GSM) – Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce is reportedly targeting Sporting Gijon left-back Roberto Canella for the summer.
Reports emanating from Spain have suggested that the 22-year-old defender, who has been linked with a move to the Premier League in the past with Stoke City, could make the move as Gijon find themselves in financial quagmire.
Valued at 12million Euros, the relegation threatened club may opt to cash in on their Spain Under-21 international.
Rovers scout Martin Glover was reportedly in the stands for the game against Valladolid last month and is though to have been impressed by Canella.
“We know about this interest but Blackburn have not officially spoken to us,” Gijon said.
“This subject is over until the end of the season. If we receive an offer it is normal to consider it.”
Real Madrid were rumoured to be interested in the player last summer while Aston Villa have also been linked with the promising youngster.
On the Blackburn interest, Canella remarked: “I see the rumours but I want to focus on my work and not suffer any distractions.”
