Newly-appointed Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim wants to sign Ousmane Diomande from his old club Sporting Lisbon, according to The Sun. Amorim wants to adopt a three-at-the-back system, and he is keen on linking up with Diomande.
Diomande has a release clause of £70 million in his contract at Sporting, and the Portuguese giants would only sell the defender if that is paid in full. The 20-year-old Ivory Coast international centre-back joined Sporting from Midtjylland in 2022 for £6.1 million.
The young defender has made eight starts and one substitute appearance in Liga Portugal and has played twice in the UEFA Champions League for Sporting so far this season. Diomande scored two goals and gave one assist in 25 league starts and scored once in seven UEFA Europa League starts for Sporting last season. Amorim was recently appointed the United manager following the dismissal of Erik ten Hag, with the Red Devils currently 13th in the Premier League table.
