Rubin Kazan are lining up a bid for Zenit star Roman Shirokov, reports Russian daily newspaper Izvestia.
The Tatarstan club aim to rebuild the squad following departures of four important players in January and they seem to have set their sights on the Russia international.
Rubin are prepared to offer Shirokov a two-year deal with an option for another year in order to lure him to Kazan.
And with the midfielder out of contract in the summer, they believe an offer in the region of €3 million would prove sufficient to sign him in the winter transfer window.
Roman Shirokov may be negotiating a new deal with Zenit at the moment, but he is widely expected to leave the club after clashing with boss Luciano Spalletti.
The 32-year-old has spent last five and a half years in St Petersburg, scoring 29 goals in 130 Russian Premier League outings for the club.
