Defending Russian champions Rubin Kazan began their 2010 league campaign with a 2-0 win over Lokomotiv Moscow on Sunday.
For a long time, the match at Kazan’s Central’nyj stadium seemed to be heading for a goalless result until Andrey Gorbanets finally broke the deadlock in the 88th minute.
Two minutes later, it was Alexander Bukharov to add a second.
Rubin share the top spot with Terek Grozny, who beat newcomers Sibir Novosibirsk 0-2, and Tom Tomsk, who defeated Rostov by the same score on Saturday.
