(GSM) – Defending Russian champions Rubin Kazan continue to struggle in this year’s edition of the Premier League, being held to a 1-1 draw at Spartak Nalchik.

Hosts Spartak Nalchik began the day in fourth place and a win would have left them close to the top three. Rubin meanwhile, are in second place but played several games less than their nearest rivals.

Rubin had a good start at Spartak stadium, where Alan Kasaev scored the opening goal on 14 minutes.

But the home side had different plans and would not give up without a fight. This paid off in the 28th minute when Milan Jovanovic netted the equaliser, 1-1.

Rubin are now three points behind leaders Zenit St. Petersburg and four points ahead of CSKA Moscow, but those two sides both have three games in hand.
