Ruddy delighted with point saver

Norwich City goalkeeper John Ruddy was delighted after pulling off a dramatic last-gasp save to rescue a point in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool.

The Canaries shot stopper kept out a Luis Suarez volley to secure the draw in injury time, after captain Grant Holt had come off the bench to stun the Reds with an equaliser in the second half.

“It was just a reflex save, and thank God for that because it made up for the dropped cross I had a few minutes before it,” Ruddy told ESPN after the game.

“Making a save like that feels like it does for a striker scoring a goal.”

“Obviously when you play in goal you don’t often get that much to cheer about but when you make a save like that at the very end you are absolutely buzzing – we are delighted to get a point.”

“I was pleased to make the save but the lads were tremendous, we showed what we were all about – we were a completely different animal in the second half. It is a great point and we move onwards here.”

Ruddy, who earlier on Saturday said that he was hoping to impress England boss Fabio Capello with his performance, felt that the visitors’ heroic effort is proof that they can be a match for anyone in the top flight.

“We have come into the league with back-to back-promotions and confidence is high,” he added.

“We’ve taken those last two seasons into this one and we don’t fear anybody.”

“When you come away with a point from Anfield it’s terrific and I hope we can continue like that for the rest of the season.”

Holt, whose cool header on the hour cancelled out Craig Bellamy’s 45th-minute opener, was equally delighted with his contribution.

“It felt just as good if not more so than the goal I got against Chelsea,” the striker said.

“We rode our luck a bit in the first half but we have got a fantastic bunch of lads here who want to work and want to win.”

“The manager has got a huge amount of belief in us and we just keep going. You can see with John’s save at the end – we would have been devastated to go away with nothing.”

“The lads have done fantastically well and worked hard. You never expect to get much at these sort of grounds but we have – it’s fantastic.”

“We kept going, got the goal and defended superbly.”

The draw lifts Paul Lambert’s side into seventh in the table with 12 points from nine games.
