French goalkeeper Stephane Ruffier will resist the lure of joining a top European side in favour of a Saint Etienne stay, L’Equipe can reveal.
The 27-year-old is widely regarded as one of France’s best goalkeepers and his heroics have helped les Verts enjoy a great start to the new campaign.
But, having spent last three seasons at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard and with his contract due to expire in less than a year, the France international was widely tipped to leave in the January window.
However, L’Equipe has learned that Ruffier has decided to extend his contract with Saint Etienne to the delight of club supporters.
This will allow les Verts to earn a considerable transfer fee if the player do leave the club, which is great news for everyone at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.
Ruffier hasn’t missed a single minute of league football since arriving from Monaco three years ago, making 120 consecutive appearances in French Ligue 1.
