Bayern chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has quashed speculations that Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben would leave the club in the summer.
The Bavarians face a tough task of keeping hold of their star players if they miss out on Champions League qualification, but Rummenigge is adamant Bayer will not sell Ribery and Robben in the summer.
“I can guarantee that they will stay. But not just these two. We will not sell any key players,” Rummenigge told Bild.
With five more rounds to be played in Bundesliga, Bayern sit one point behind third-placed Hannover, with Andries Jonker set to lead the side until the end of the season after Louis van Gaal was sacked.
Rummenigge says that Bayern plan to bring new players even if they fail to clinch a Champions League berth.
“Transfer decisions do not depend on that,” he told Bild newspaper. “We played in the UEFA Cup in 2007 but we still brought Ribery, Luca Toni, Miroslav Klose and Hamit Altintop.”
“We will decide on these things together with Jupp. But one thing is certain: We will buy players.”
