Rumour has it that England and Newcastle striker Michael Owen has rejected the latest contract offer made by Newcastle United.
Owen’s current contract is set to expire at the end of the current season.
There has been a delay in the opening up of talks between Owen and the club, but manager Joe Kinnear has recently convinced Mike Ashley to open up a round of talks with Owen.
It has been reported that talks were held on Monday and that the new contract would have meant that the striker who turned twenty-nine years old at the weekend, would have been set to earn ₤25 000 less than he is currently earning.
The former Liverpool and Real Madrid striker is believed to waiting for his current contract to run its course and then during the summer recess will be looking for a new club.
At present Liverpool, Everton and Manchester City appear to be the most likely clubs that will enter into the race to secure his signature for the 2008/9 season.
