Russian league leaders Zenit St. Petersburg were held to a surprising 3-3 draw at Anzhi Makhachkala on Sunday while Rubin Kazan drew 0-0 at CSKA Moskva.

Anzhi needed less than three minutes for Jan Holenda to score the opener, but it wasn’t enough to worry Zenit who leveled through Danny five minutes later.

Konstantin Zyrianov then made it 1-2 shortly before the break, and Danny netted his second for 1-3 four minutes after the hour.

While Zenit were practically certain of adding another three points to their account, Nicolae Josan pulled one back in the 81st minute to give the home side new hope.

And in the dying seconds, Mikhail Bakaev got a shocking equaliser to hand Anzhi a valuable point.

Zenit’s nearest rivals, Rubin Kazan and CSKA Moskva, both failed to take advantage as the two held each other to a goalless draw in Moscow.

Zenit keep a six-point advantage over Rubin, who played two more games, and CSKA are eight points away from the top.
