(GSM) – Zenit St. Petersburg wasted their first chance to secure the Russian league title, as the leaders suffered a 1-3 home defeat by CSKA Moskva on Wednesday.
A win would have been enough for Zenit to be crowned Russian champions, but CSKA clearly wanted to use this final opportunity to stay in the title race themselves.
Brazilian Vagner Love scored the opening goal in CSKA’s favour after 14 minutes, and Mark Gonzalez made it 0-2 in the 34th.
When Seydou Doumbia added another, seven minutes after the break, Zenit knew that this was not going to be their day.
All the home team could do in return was score a consolation goal through Alessandro Rosina in the dying minutes.
CSKA are now just six points behind Zenit, with three more rounds left to play.
