Russia are preparing to enter the race for hosting either the 2028 or the 2032 European Championship, and that piece of news has caused bewilderment, incredulity, and even mock from media and public across the Western countries. Many believe the whole thing is simply a taunt directed at UEFA after the European football governing body excluded Russian clubs from its competitions due to Russia’s ongoing military actions in Ukraine.
However, RFU official Alexey Sorokin has made it clear that the bid is no joke at all.
